The economics of the printer industry has allowed for consumers to make their own choices regarding their money. An inkjet cartridge may be one of the most expensive things you will replace. Most companies and manufacturers of printers sell their printers for a cheaper price for a reason. By selling the printer at an obnoxiously low price, they make their money back in the refills. Once you have made the initial investment, they will assume you will keep paying the extra money to keep using it. Some people even buy a new printer every time their ribbon and cartridges go out! It is cheaper!

We don’t want to cause that much waste, though. Many consumers don’t want to go through the hassle of buying another printer every time a replaceable part goes out. The reality is that when the cartridges are so expensive, it becomes a solution to the problem.

It doesn’t have to take buying a new printer to keep up on costs. Many third party manufacturers are selling an aftermarket inkjet cartridge. This is what the original manufacturer of the printer had in mind, but the consumer is lucky to have that on their side. You can buy third party ink cartridges and recycle them, with a lower cost than the brand name. You can also take matters into your own hands and refill the cartridges yourself. This may seem daunting, but with the help of a few forums and how-tos, you’ll be good to go! It is simpler than you think and ridiculously cost-effective. Some companies are trying to stop the manufacturing of ink cartridges from third party vendors. Although this practice may end sometime in the future, refilling ink cartridges yourself may always be lucrative to the consumer. You may have to get a special replacement chip, but even with a few extra parts, although it won’t save you time, it will save the environment and keep money in your pocket!
